Tell us about yourself.
We are Kerry and Michelle Hill. We’re both aged 60 and have taken early retirement. We moved to Gateforth Park on April 1st this year, from just up the road in Goole where we had lived for the last 39 years. We have one dog – a Parson Russell Terrier named Diesel.
What model of park home do you have?
After looking at all the different homes and visiting the Prestige site in Northampton we went for a 45 x 20 Avanti model. This has two bedrooms, a good size en-suite and family bathroom, a large dining kitchen and also benefits from a utility room and separate study, giving us extra space to store all our possessions!
Have you lived on a residential park before?
We have never lived in a residential park home previously. In fact, we weren’t actually aware they existed until we found Gateforth. We had been wanting to downsize from our four bedroom house to a bungalow for some time and we were constantly doing internet searches for properties in Goole and the surrounding area. We found all the bungalows to be very expensive and they all needed a lot of extra work and money to become the modern property we were looking for. We then came across Gateforth Park when doing one of our many internet searches. From first sight it looked to give us the modern ‘bungalow’ we had been searching for, at a price we could afford.
What appealed to you about Gateforth Park?
Once we found the park online we visited the following weekend, in June 2021. As soon as we arrived and started to look at the show properties and layout of the park it just felt like somewhere we would be happy. Our initial impressions of it were of a lovely landscaped site where the homes had plenty of space between them and where everyone you met seemed content and happy with their decisions to move here. We knew a couple currently living on site and after talking to them and their neighbours, and seeing the enthusiasm everyone had for living here, we were sold even more on the site.
How did you find the process of moving to Gateforth Park?
The team at Gateforth did their best to make the move here as easy as possible. They are all very experienced and knowledgeable about the homes they sell and what moving on to a residential park involves.
From Alan who first showed us the properties, to Dawn who helped us choose (and change) our soft furnishings (and other things) in our chosen property when we visited the Prestige site in Northampton, to Helen who guided and helped us through moving in. And, of course, the park managers Amanda and Andrew who looked after the preparation of our plot and ensured our home was in situ and ready for us to move in to on the date promised.
They are an excellent team who make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. They guided and supported us through each stage of the process and are still available if we have any questions on an ongoing basis.
How are you settling in?
After a few personal setbacks when we first arrived we can say that Gateforth Park now certainly feels like home! It seems like we have known people who live here for much longer than a few months and like we are part of a community where there’s always someone to chat to or ask for help if needed.
What do you like about living in a park home?
Our park home gives us that modern ‘bungalow’ we were searching for. It’s energy efficient and easy to manage with very little maintenance required.
And how is it living on a residential park?
Moving on to a residential park has given us that feeling of living amongst like-minded people. Gateforth Park is in such a peaceful rural area – made for a very relaxing retirement!
How about Gateforth Park’s location?
Gateforth Park is well placed for both shopping/leisure and getting out to enjoy the lovely scenery and countryside around the park. Selby is a lovely little market town with everything you need on the doorstep.
How are you finding the Gateforth Park community?
The community is one of the best parts about living here. We have made lots of new friends and if we needed anything we know we would only have to ask! As the park continues to grow, the community just gets better.
What are you looking forward to as the site develops?
It will be nice to see the community centre open which will continue to encourage those residents who want to, to get together on a regular basis.
What would you say to anyone considering a move to Gateforth Park?
Do it! If you’re looking for a relaxed place to live with an excellent community in a lovely property then Gateforth Park is the place for you.
